SOYCAR
SOYCAR
After being involved in the Biodiesel scene for a while I decided to convert my Beetle to run on waste vegetable oil, known as a WVO conversion.
Unlike biodiesel, where the oil is converted into fuel that can be used in all diesel cars, WVO conversion involves an additional fuel tank and heated fuel lines that carry the oil to the engine.
I used the kit from GreaseCar and was happy with the results. The manual was detailed enough even for a complete car-idiot like me to perform the conversion.
So today I took the first Veg. Oil run in it. I filtered some oil I got from Johanny's Pizza up the street, poured it into the tank, and walla! The car runs on the free, fries-smelling fuel. Now I know why they're called Freedom Fries...
The one thing I thought was lacking from the manual was a system diagram, so I made one. There are diagrams for electrical and fuel lines, but the one here is the complete package.
The car, if you wondered, is named Laira. It was named that by Olivia, our family's official namer. M laptop's name is Maria, the new MacBook is Keith, the iPod is Lisa, and so on.
Below are some photos from the conversion and of the car.
